What is ADHD?

Attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulty in modulating attention (inattention), behaviors (impulsive actions and speech), or movements (motor hyperactivity) (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).

The situation in Quebec

The most recent research on ADHD from the Quebec Integrated Chronic Disease Surveillance System shows a steady increase in ADHD over time. In 2015-2016, there were 240,535 children and young adults aged 1 to 24 years in Quebec with a diagnosis of ADHD (INSPQ, 2019).

Signs of ADHD:

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Agitation
  • Impulsivity
  • Difficulty performing tasks
  • Sense of disorganization
  • Low frustration tolerance
  • Mood swings
  • Tantrums
  • Difficulty managing stress
  • You are in an unstable relationship

The most important benefit of having an ADHD assessment is to gain a better understanding of yourself or your child.
